Trachystemon orientalis

Une curiosité botanique - son long feuillage rugueux est un peu comme celui de la consoude et sa floraison étoilée pourpre et blanche portée sur des tiges bourgognes tôt au printemps comme celle de la bourrache. C'est une bonne plante pour les endroits ombragés difficiles, un peu sec l'été par exemple mais où la neige peut s'accumuler en hiver puisqu'elle est de rusticité douteuse.  Elle a survécu pendant quelques années ici et un hiver rigoureux sans neige hâtive l'a fait disparaître complètement. Heureusement elle avait été partagée et elle nous est revenue. 30 cm  mai



A real curiosity! It has rather rough but not unattractive foliage, (somewhat similar to that of comfrey), and starry purple and white flowers that ressemble those of borage. It is a great plant for the difficult shady spot, perhaps a tad too dry for some other plants in the summer, but where snow can accumulate in the winter as it is of doubtful hardiness.  We grew it for some years, then one particularly morbid winter came and we lost all of it.  Luckily it had been shared and came back to us.   30 cm  April-May
